La importancia de la salud mental en las organizaciones

A más de cinco años de la publicación de la NOM 035 que identifica y previene los riesgos psicosociales en los centros de trabajo, la salud física y mental de las personas trabajadoras aún presenta un desafío para los empleadores en México.

Las cifras al respecto son reveladoras. La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) indica que 75% de la fuerza laboral tiene estrés. Un estudio reciente de Pluxee, denominado “Panorama Laboral en México 2023”, refiere que 4 de cada 10 trabajadores considera que tiene una carga de trabajo excesiva, lo que impulsa la percepción de un mal equilibrio laboral y falta de energía en el trabajo. Por su parte, la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT) reporta 2.6 millones de muertes anuales por enfermedades ocupacionales.

Para Roxana Aguirre, directora de People & Culture en Pluxee México, si bien hay un reconocimiento de enfermedades cada vez más presentes en el sector laboral, aún faltan políticas públicas y un seguimiento efectivo para prevenirlas y sobre todo un mayor entendimiento por parte de los empleadores sobre la importancia que tiene fomentar la salud de las personas y sus efectos dentro y fuera de espacios de trabajo.

Aunque una de cada dos empresas en México implementa acciones para cumplir con la NOM 035 y revertir este panorama, es necesario que el sector empresarial fortalezca sus políticas para poner freno al deterioro de una fuerza laboral aquejada por enfermedades como estrés, burnout, depresión, ansiedad y cáncer, entre otros.

La directiva invitó a priorizar la salud integral y el bienestar de los colaboradores dentro y fuera del lugar de trabajo a través de cumplir con la normatividad de la NOM 035. También propuso implementar programas de beneficios y recompensas personalizados y flexibles para abrir un mundo de oportunidades para todos a través de experiencias más humanas, empáticas y cercanas.

A este respecto se sabe que el ausentismo laboral genera una pérdida de 7.3% en el costo de la nómina al año y de más de 20% de productividad anual. De acuerdo con datos del Workplace Wellness Council México, un trabajador que sufre depresión puede faltar al trabajo 25 días al año y 20 días si tiene ansiedad.
